Virgil Emerson, 81 of Peoria died at 4:50 p.m. on June 21, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center.
He worked as a wire drawer at Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for 24 years, retiring in 1982. Prior to that he worked for Pabst Brewing Company.
Mr. Emerson was born on May 3, 1920, in Hamilton County to William A. and Nora M. (Tolley) Emerson. He married Jeannie Daily in McLeansboro on July 24, 1948; she survives.
Graveside services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2001 at Bloomington Grove Cemetery near McLeansboro. Military honors were accorded.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Steve Emerson and wife Lynn of Metamora, a granddaughter; and two sisters, Alta Hook of Carmi and Georgia Boyer of Phoenix, Arizonia.
Mr. Emerson was a member of the Keystone Good Fellows Club. He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran, he served in Iceland.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
